Rita D. Hoppe passed away June 15, 2015, at Aurora BayCare Hospital in Green Bay from a brain aneurysm with her family by her side. She was born June 4, 1930, in Oshkosh to Robert and Lidwinia (Bingen) Westover. Rita was raised in Oshkosh attending St. Mary's School and later Winneconne High School. Rita married Gaylord Hoppe January 12, 1955, in Iowa. She and Gaylord lived in Omro, Berlin, moving back to Oshkosh in 1975.
She was employed by Sand Knit in Berlin then Marc's Big Boy until her retirement in 1992. Rita was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro for many years and recently a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She loved her church music and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Rita also loved crossword puzzles, reading and knitting when she was able.
Rita is survived by six children: Kathy (Robert) Dutcher, Oshkosh; Thomas (Jean) Kresal, Strum; Robert Kresal, North Fond du Lac; Mark (Jean) Hoppe, Oshkosh; Linda Mackowiak, Waunakee; and Gayle Hoppe, Oshkosh; nine grandchildren, special granddaughter Kristin (Andy) Radue, Tyler (Becky) Kresal, Jodi (Colin) McSherry, Kelly Sandavol, Casey (Justin) Wix, Kara Alvarado, Leah (Brandon) Blaskowski, Sarah Brown, Jennifer Brown and grandson-in-law Deavista Brown; eighteen great-grandchildren, Trenton, Isabella, Adrianna, Benicio, Madeline, Malachi, Kayla, Tatiana, Asiana, Kalvin, Kallye, Kayin, Tanner, Kennedy, Nevaeh, Sophia, Antonio, Christina; sisters-in-law, Marge Westover, Michigan; Carole (Don) Wissink, Oshkosh; Lucile Hoppe, Oshkosh; Frankie Hoppe, Virginia; brother-in-law, Lawrence (Delores) Hoppe, Oshkosh; special cousin, Jody(Charles) Bradley, California; her granddog Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Gaylord; her parents; her siblings, David (Helen) Westover, Robert (Betty) Westover, Gerald Westover, Margaret (Norm) Radig; brothers-in- law, Howard Hoppe, Richard Hoppe, Kenneth Hoppe; son-in-law, Anthony Mackowiak; daughter-in-law Laurie Kresal; grandson-in-law Omnipotent Brown.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, June 20, 2015, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1072 Honey Creek Dr. Oshkosh. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Kim Krogstad officiating. Entombment will be in Lake View Mausoleum, Oshkosh.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
The children and grandchildren want to especially thank the entire staff of Oakwood Manor for the loving care that she received, and also the hospice nurses of Aurora BayCare, Kirsten, June, and Amy for the love and support for our Mom and family. We would also like to thank Jeanne Tollard, Karen Scheuermann, and Pastor Kim for their continued offering of communion while she was not able to attend church.
