Betty Joan (Hefti) Helm passed away on November 8, 2023, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh, Wisconsin after a courageous battle with dementia. Betty was born March 8, 1933, on the farm near LuVerne, Iowa, the youngest daughter of John Albert Hefti and Gertrude Angeline Hefti.  She attended Vernon Township School and graduated in 1952. She married Harlan Eugene Helm on December 27, 1952. Their union was blessed with two daughters.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Iowa, living in Greene for over 40 years. She moved to Winneconne, Wisconsin on January 24, 2023, due to declining health. Betty enjoyed gardening, flowers, making cookies, and sitting on her front porch drinking LOTS of coffee. She loved collecting coffee mugs and cardinals. Betty was very passionate about helping kids with challenges and worked for various agencies in Iowa in that capacity. As a teacher’s wife, she was active in the local schools and could be seen sitting on the gym bleachers behind the boy’s basketball team, or attending other school events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Delah Jean; brother-in-law, Edward, and nephew, Joel.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Robbin (Bruce) Wiley of Winneconne; Rhonda (Leon) Weber of Madrid, Iowa; four grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer (Wiley) (Jacob Stapelmann) Ibrahim, Benjamin (Mary) Weber, Melissa (Wiley) (Jacob) Matelski, and Colby Weber. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, Julia Ibrahim, Ethan Matelski, Lily Weber, Cayden Weber, and Wyatt Weber.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. Betty’s family will have a private service to lay her to rest at home in Iowa at a later date.

The family would like to thank the people in Greene who helped look after Betty. They would also like to thank the staff at Lakeshore Manor and Moments Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Betty.
