Did you ever have a cup of coffee so perfect that you bought one for a friend?  A walk you wished you could share with the world?  A shelter dog that was so wonderful that you contemplated taking it home?

That was Davey Tuchscherer!  His eyes and heart overflowed with joy.  He didn’t show up without a huge greeting.  Didn’t walk away without a bounce in his step.  With a gift only God can understand, a room just got a little brighter when he walked into it.

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we need to let the world know that Davey lost his life on Friday, March 22, 2024, while riding his motorcycle in San Diego, California where he was based as a United States Marine.  At the time of his death, Davey and nine other Marines were enroute to a motorcycle mentoring event.

Davey attended Oshkosh Christian (Valley) from K-12 grade.  After graduation he went to UW-Oshkosh for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp.  Davey excelled in the Marine Corp, achieving the Naval Achievement Medal (NAM), Marine of the Quarter, along with a meritorious promotion to the rank of Corporal.  Prior to his death, Davey had been approached by his command to consider attending the Naval Academy, with his Major telling him he would be a “shoo in.”

Davey’s hobbies were varied.  He was a capable unicycle rider.  Loved to camp at Calumet County Park with his family and friends. Having grown up on Lake Winnebago, Davey spent many hours in a kayak, his micro tugboat or enjoying a cup of coffee in front of the lake.  More than anything, Davey loved spending time with family and friends and was always looking forward to the next chance he’d have to be with them.  Davey’s “go to” when he was home was always the family German Shepherd - Zero.  He dreamed of the day when his life and schedule would allow for him to connect with, choose and train a German Shepherd of his own.

Davey is survived by his mother, Minimay Tuchscherer; his father, Dave Tuchscherer, Sr; his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Star Tuchscherer; and his sister, Marie Ann Tuchscherer.  He is loved by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Military funeral will be held at Community Church, 2351 Ryf Road in Oshkosh, Saturday, April 6, 2024. Please join us for visitation with the family from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00.

Davey’s father regrets being unable to dissuade Davey from buying and riding a street bike and asks all riders to reconsider their choice to ride road bikes.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to a charity you feel would best honor Davey.

Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family. If you wish, please submit condolences/memories to muellerfh.net.

There was never a dull moment with Davey Tuchscherer. He was a bright soul filled with an intelligent and unique perspective on the world. Since we heard about the accident, we are reminded of all the memories we shared with Davey. He truly had a one-of-a-kind personality that drew people towards him. We will continually be praying over Davey's family and friends as we all grieve over this sudden loss. We pray this tragic event will result in healing and bring many closer to the Lord. Let us be reminded to not take any day for granted but value every moment the Lord has given us.

It is hard to comprehend such a tremendous loss. My heart goes out to Davey’s family. ?? I had the privilege of Davey working for me for several years at the Parks Department. He was one of the most genuine, polite and kind kids. I will always smile when I think of him riding his uni-cycle to work, strolling down the river in his mini tugboat or walking around the lake with his dog. The world can definitely learn something from his enthusiasm for life and positive outlook. Gone far, far too soon. Rest easy Davey. ??Thanks for the memories. Apr 1, 2024 ?|? Reply

Davey and I worked together at the Park for so many summers, I lost count. Anytime we worked together, I knew it would be a good day. Davey was the kind of guy that held open doors and smiled at everyone. He always laughed at my jokes. He was such a joy to be around. I am sure he touched the hearts of everyone he met and the world is a little darker without him in it. I am still shocked by the news myself. I can't imagine why God needed him now but I'm certain we will see Davey again.

I do not know the Tuchscherer family but I was drawn in by the beautifully written homage to their beloved son "Davey". It was a heartfelt tribute to "Davey" and his legacy. I'm sure you are hurting right now but please take solace in knowing "Davey" is being well taken care of by a higher power. Please, do not mourn your loss but rather celebrate his life. I'm sure family and friends have many wonderful memories of "Davey". Take time to listen and remember every one of them.

It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow Marines of Davey Tuchscherer. Though my time with Davey at MWSS-373 was brief, his enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, and zest for life left an indelible mark on all of us. Davey was the embodiment of a Marine with a bright future, always ready to meet the next challenge with a smile. His loss is felt deeply within our community, and we mourn a life taken far too soon. To Davey’s family: please know that you are not alone in your grief. Davey's spirit and joyous energy touched many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him. In these difficult times, may we find comfort in the legacy of light and love he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Davey. Your legacy will forever be remembered within the hearts of those who had the honor of crossing paths with you. Until Valhalla.

It is an honor to be a part of your lives. I will never forget the energy Davey brought to a room and the positive attitude he displayed in all he did. He touched many peoples lives and created memories that will last in others hearts forever. One such memory is from when he worked at Two Brothers and waited for my now wife and I on our first date. Thank you Tuchscherer family for raising an amazing young man and encouraging him as a Marine. Davey had an Indomitable Human Spirit. I will continue to keep Davey and his family in my prayers. “Before he fell, Icarus flew.”
