Gerald “Jerry” Reetz, 84, of Winneconne died Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Bethel Home in Oshkosh. He was born in Oshkosh on April 5, 1940, to the late Reinhold and Doraine (Kanitz) Reetz.

Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Winneconne High School. For a short time, he worked in communications for the railroad. From 1963 to 1965 Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army. On February 5, 1966, he married Judy Scherck. For many years Jerry worked for Mueller’s Floor Covering and Furniture in Winneconne, as well as assisting on the ambulance service the Mueller family operated. He then purchased the business from the Mueller’s and it became Jerry’s Interiors. Jerry then went on to work at Carpet Gallery in Oshkosh until retiring in 2011. For many years Jerry also worked as a bartender starting at the Fin n Feather, then onto Haase’s Supper Club, Holtz’s Supper Club, Lake Breeze Golf Course, and Jimmie’s White House Inn. Jerry had the gift of gab and a great sense of humor and was a prolific joke teller on any topic or occasion, and kept his wit until the end.

Jerry served two separate times and 10 years as a Winneconne Village Trustee and was recognized for his 25 years on the Village Planning Commission. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.  

Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Reetz; three children, Tom (Beth) Reetz, Lori Meitzen (Craig), David Reetz; grandchildren, Alyssa (Nick) Angell, Mitch (Ally) Reetz, Lauren Reetz (Eric), Cohen Reetz, Ari Reetz; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Janet; a brother, Dick Reetz; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis Behm, Mike and Cindy Scherck; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Along with his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Behm; a brother, Dan Reetz; son-in-law, Mike Meitzen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton and Rose Scherck; and sister-in-law, Jane Ochowicz.

A visitation will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Drive Winneconne. Visitation will continue on Friday, April 12 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the Winneconne Cemetery.

Jerry’s family wishes to thank the staffs of Bethel Home and Compassus Hospice, especially Stephanie Goss, for the care given to him.

Condolences from Laura and I to the whole Reetz family! Unfortuantely, we are out of town for the funeral and will not be able to attend. Jerry was a great guy and a servant to the community. Celebrate a life well lived!
