June was born in Omro, Wisconsin on June 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Carl and Esther (Albrecht) Hellwig. On April 17, 1949, she married Leonard S. Rice in Omro. June's passions focused on her family. June is loved and sadly missed by her husband, Leonard Rice; her daughter, Jane (Tom) Kinney, Sun Prairie; her sons, Bill (Carol) Rice, Springfield, Illinois; David (Ilona) Rice, Kewaunee; Tim Rice, Omro; her grandchildren, Anne (Nathan) Poe, Meghan Kinney, Emily Kinney, Lindsay Rice, Sara Rice, Bill Rice, Owen Rice, Evan Rice, and Selena Ritchie; and great-granddaughter Katie Poe.

Third Ave., Winneconne, with Pastor Mara Liz Rivera officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow the service. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Hi to all of you! I am so sorry I couldn't be at your mom's funeral. I was in LaCrosse at an event I couldn't switch. I was so surprised to hear about her death...just by chance did I hear. Like everyone else knows, she was a fun & funny, kind & strong willed, full of life spirit who was just plain fun to be around. I know my mom loved her. It'll be hard with her gone, but you have each other & she'll keep an eye from above. The hardest part of the circle of life is closing that circle.....but what a great life she had. Bill...let me know when you're back in town. I'd love to chat. You all have my total sympathy for your sadness. Praise God & shout for joy for 83 years. Open the gates...here she comes!

It was just by chance that I saw June's obituary. My mother, Marjorie, told me the story of how I got my name. It was June, 1958 and my mom gave birth to me, a girl, after having 3 boys. She wanted to name me Jorie (the last part of her first name). My dad thought this was the strangest thing he'd ever heard! (I thought it was pretty clever.) Anyway, there they were at Mercy Hospital with no name for sweet, precious me! Mom said that her wonderful maternity nurse's name was June (Rice)so they decided on June Marjorie.

Leonard and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't help but smile when I think of June. She was such a character - and I see her in each of you; Bill, David, Tim and mostly you - Jane! You are an amazing family - my heart goes out to all of you!
