Jack R. Mielke
Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Jack R. Mielke, age 70, of Oshkosh, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, after a courageous battle with peritoneal mesothelioma.
He was born August 29, 1940, in Appleton, to the late Ernest and Elsie (Bauers) Mielke. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Weyauwega High School. From 1959 to 1961 he served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan, and until 1965 he served in the Army Reserves. On July 10, 1965, Jack married Marlene Schroeder in Watertown. For 30 years, he worked for Mercury Marine, retiring in 2002. Jack was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching movies, listening to music, and reading, especially sitting in the sun reading the morning newspaper. Jack and Marlene loved traveling abroad, with their favorite trips being to Greece and Russia. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially Friday night fish fry's. Jack was always willing to help where needed, and he always had a smile on his face, except in pictures. He also loved spending time and visiting with his sons; Aron's home in his favorite box canyon in Montana, and Andrew's cottage on Lake Butte des Morts.
Jack is survived by his partner in life and wife of 45 years, Marlene; his beloved sons, Andrew (Patty) Mielke; Aron (Becci) Mielke; and his special granddaughter, Karissa. He is also survived by one brother, Bill (Kay) Mielke; special nephew and friend, Don (Bonnie) Thews; his mother-in-law, Elnora Schroeder; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred (Verdell) Schroeder, Dick (Gwynn) Schroeder, Patti Frechette, Gloria King, Sharon Rutter, Sandra (Ray) Claussen, and Will Schroeder; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Along with his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Harvey, and Elmer; one sister, Adeline; two nephews, Evan Thews, Mark Claussen; father-in-law, Erich Schroeder; and three brothers-in-law, Lyle Frechette, Wayne King, and Lyle Rutter.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 6, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1072 Honey Creek Dr., Oshkosh, with Pastor Alan Schaffmeyer and Jack's nephew, Pastor Daniel Thews officiating. Inurnment will be in the Concordia Cemetery in the Town of West Bloomfield. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the All Saints Lutheran Church Angel Courtyard Garden, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Weyauwega.
