Marcella A. Volp Schmude

Marcella A. (Linssen) Volp Schmude, age 88, of Omro, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and servant of the Lord, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, after suffering a major stroke on September 9, 2010. She was born at home on February 16, 1922, in Green Bay, daughter of the late Charles and Mayme (VanDen Langenberg) Linssen. Marcella attended the Elementary School District #1 in Bellevue through the 8th grade, obtaining five perfect attendance records. On May 16, 1942, she married LaVern Volp and they had nine children, and on May 14, 1966, Marcella married Russel Schmude in Peshtigo, and they had one child. Marcella spent all of her life on the farm, where her love of animals was shown through her caring and nurturing for them. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, siblings, and family gatherings. Religion was an important aspect of Marcella's life which she instilled in her children. She was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. Marcella was a very giving person who always gave gifts from her heart, and always put everyone else before herself.
Marcella is survived by her husband of 44 years, Rusty Schmude, of Omro; five daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Petersen, of Franklin, Wisconsin; Virginia "Ginny" (Larry) Zink, of Oshkosh; Lola (Lloyd) Schoenfeld, of Clintonville; Rena (Jeffrey) Johnson, of Oshkosh; Lisa (Jan) Mallmann, of Hortonville; five sons, Wayne Volp, of Winneconne; Larry Volp, of Racine; Glen (Joni) Volp, of Omro; Dale (Laura "LJ") Volp, of Winneconne; Russell (Amy) Volp, of Omro; three step-children, Marie Schmude Greene, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Jeffery (Carrie) Schmude, of Oshkosh; Larry Schmude, of Conway, Arkansas; special family friends, Lee and Patty Volp, and their two daughters, of Omro; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is further survived by six sisters, Beatrice Henrigilles, Lorraine Albers, Eunice Kocken, all of DePere; Marion Rukamp, of Green Bay; Ruth (Robert) Beining, of Greenleaf; Beverly (Richard) Huxford, of DePere; three brothers, Bernard (Carol) Linssen, of DePere; Ralph (Joyce) Linssen, of Green Bay; Kenneth (Nancy) Linssen, of DePere; sister-in-law, Joanne Linssen, of Denmark; brothers-in-law, David (Julie) Schmude, of Oshkosh; Neil (Debbie) Schmude, of Omro; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents, Marcella was also preceded in death by her first husband, LaVern Volp; a brother, Merlin Linssen; baby brother, Gabriel Linssen; a sister and five brothers-in-law, Alvina and Leonard Schoessow, Norbert Henrigilles, Louis "Luke" Albers, Walter Kocken, and Donald Rukamp.
A Funeral Service for Marcella will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St., Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach and Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Borth Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, October 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and will continue on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Marcella's name.
Marcella's family wishes to send a very sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice for all of the wonderful care given to her. "Each and every one of you had some part in making an otherwise disheartening experience a comforting one."

My heart and prayers go out to you All! Sorry I can't be there. Patti is coming for our family. Know Marcella made some of muy happiest times growing up. She was such a soft spirit, A truly gentle soul. Glad she had hospice at the end. I would have loved to have had her as one of my patients.
