Irma A. Raatz, age 98, of Kaukauna, left her earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna. She was born April 27, 1912, in West Bloomfield, to the late Herman and Hattie (Kahlke) Schmidt. On August 31, 1928, Irma married Eric Raatz in West Bloomfield. Irma and Eric lived in the Zittau area, before moving to Appleton in 1976. Eric preceded Irma in death on January 20, 1978. She also had made her home in Winneconne. Irma was a homemaker and also did seasonal work at various businesses. She enjoyed spending time with family, preparing big Christmas dinners, singing, and crossword puzzles. Irma was an active member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne, and its Ladies Guild.
Irma is survived by her four children, Dolores Meyer (special friend, Herbie Schimelpfenig), of Zittau; Yvonne (Leonard) Olsen, of Manawa; Gorgene Niemuth, of Oshkosh; Rick (Kathy) Raatz, of Appleton; twenty grandchildren, Larry (Sharon) Olsen, of Manawa; Mickey Olsen, of Tacoma, Washington; Terry (Lynn) Meyer, of Janesville; Ken Meyer, of Neenah; Kirk (Wendy) Meyer, of Appleton; Wyatt (Betty) Luzenski, of Oshkosh; Bret (Jenna) Luzenski, of Oshkosh; Landy (Jerry) Van Haren, of Reedsville; Sandy (Pat) Hafferty, of Green Bay; Trudy (Bob) Bergman, of Oshkosh; Tierney (Ron) Behling, of Oshkosh; Lowetta Luzenski, of Roseville Minnesota; Rogene (Jim) Tyson, of Oshkosh; Andrew (Becci) Raatz, of Manitowoc; Stephanie (Jason) Gagnon, of Appleton; Les (Donna) Ory, of Larsen; Cindy (Dave) Terrace, of Greenbush; Vicki (Ken) Whiting, of Winneconne; Jerry (Sara) Ory, of Oshkosh; Don (Brenda) Ory, of Larsen; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Irma was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gwen Ory; one son, Lanny Raatz; two great-grandchildren, Corey and Samantha Luzenski; three sisters, Elsa Fischer, Hilda Niemuth, and Alma Niemuth Kempf; and five sons-in-law, Marvin Meyer, Owen Ory, Willie Niemuth, Mervin Oliver, and Harry Luzenski.
A Funeral Service for Irma will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St., Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach and Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
Irma's family offers special thanks to the staff of St. Paul Elder Services for all of the wonderful care given to her.
