Robert L. Grundman, age 83, of the Town of Clayton, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born February 7, 1927, in the Town of Menasha, to the late Harvey and Martha (Schilling) Grundman. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On September 4, 1948, he married Audrey Gardner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Neenah. From 1947 until 1958 Bob owned and operated a dairy farm. From 1958 until 1967 he worked at various jobs, and from 1967 until the present time he owned and operated Grundman's Excavating and Materials, along with selling Christmas trees. Bob served as a volunteer fireman for the Towns of Neenah and Menasha from 1947 to 1958, and with the Clayton-Winchester Fire Dept. from 1968 until 1978. For 4 years he was the Happy Hours School Board clerk. From 1975 until 1995, Bob served as the chairman of the Town of Clayton, and was on the Winnebago County Board from 1982 to 1992. He was a charter member of the Larsen/Winchester Lions Club, started in 1974, where he earned the Melvin Jones Fellowship and the Burch Sturm Fellowship. Bob was a member of the Clayton Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the American Legion Post 33-Neenah. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring John Deere tractors, snowmobiling, golfing, and in the winter time, playing sheepshead with friends.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Grundman; his eight children and their families: daughter, Sandra (Lawrence, Sr.) Basel, and their children, Lawrence Jr. (Kim) Basel, and children, Alexis and Zachary; Kenneth (Tammy) Basel, and children, Rachel, Alysha, Abby, and Ashley; Andrea (Russ) Gerke, and children, Reagan and Erin; Timothy (Julie) Basel, and children, Elizabeth and Carter; son, Bruce (Ruthie) Grundman, and their children, Pamela Euclide (Jamie), and her child, Skyler; Misty (Chris) Carriveau; Nicholas (Missy) Grundman, and children, Isaac and Hunter; daughter, Linda (Deastell) (Richard) Erdmann; son, Eric (Phyllis) Grundman, and their children, Bryan Meyerhofer, Connor and Alec Grundman; son, Gerald Grundman, Sr., and his children, Gerald, Jr. (Angela) Grundman, Jason Grundman; daughter, Nancy (Ronald, Jr.) Cohen, and their children, Joshua Lamberg, Aaron (Nikki) Lamberg, Tanner (Jessica) Lamberg, Kyle Lamberg, Ronald Cohen III, Aaron Cohen; son, Robert "Jim" (Missy) Grundman, and their children, Jacob and Leah Grundman; daughter, Cheryl (James) Wichman, and their children, Emily (Keith) Schreiner, and their child, Hailey; Noah Wichman. Also surviving Bob is one sister, Rae Joan Harvey.
Along with his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by one son, Keith Grundman; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Leon and Lois Grundman, Harvey Grundman, Jr.; brother-in-law, Charles Harvey; and a son-in-law, Wilbur Deastell.
A Funeral Service for Bob will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 3703 Fairview Rd. Neenah, with Pastor Paul Meier officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, January 6 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and will continue on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Larsen/Winchester Lions Club, and the Clayton Immanuel Lutheran Church.
