John Vernon Andersen, age 61, of Winneconne, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009. He was born June 21, 1948 in Neenah, the oldest of four children to the late Vernon and Elaine (Ihrig) Andersen. John served his country in the U.S. Army from May of 1968 until 1972. Upon returning from the service he resumed working in Winneconne at J.I. Case through the Ingersoll ownership. John was a past member of the American Legion Post 364 in Winneconne where he was a past post commander. He also had served on the Winneconne Volunteer Fire Department. John lived the past three years in Irma, Wisconsin helping his cousin, Maureen (Andersen) Johnson maintain her horse farm.
John is survived by two sisters and one brother, Joanne (Gerald) Wenzel, Allen (Karla) Andersen, all of Winneconne; Elisabeth (David) Meilahn, of Fond du Lac; nieces and nephews, Kathryn (Roger) Howard, of Palatine, Illinois; Michael Wenzel, of Appleton; Kristen (Thomas) Owens, of Neenah; Jasen Andersen, Scott Andersen, both of Winneconne; Megan (Gary) Jourdan, of Milwaukee; Rebecca (Jacob) Meilke, of Fond du Lac; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; and a special friend, Sandy Colvin, of Winneconne.
Cremation has taken place and a Service of Comfort will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach officiating. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Winneconne Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
