Gleason F. Spiegelberg

Gleason F. Spiegelberg, age 84, of rural Omro, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his home. He was born in Oshkosh on October 31, 1926, the son of Frederick and Sara (Libby) Spiegelberg. Gleason married Ruth Knutzen on December 27, 1946.
Gleason was a farmer and owner of Spiegelberg Land Improvement. He enjoyed dancing and listening to Slovenian music, playing the accordion, hunting, learning German, flight, travel out West, carpentry, restoring tractors, and building and operating his sawmill. Gleason was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. He served the community as co-fire chief of the Poygan Volunteer Fire Department, as a supervisor for the Township of Poygan, president of the Winnebago County Chapter of the National Farmer's Organization, and school board member for Heffron School.
Survivors include by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; their children, Jack (Sharon) Spiegelberg, Chuck (Donna) Spiegelberg, and Jane (Rick) Koplitz; grandchildren, John (Kris) Spiegelberg, Chad (Sue) Spiegelberg, Kevin (Lara) Spiegelberg, Beth (Matt) Gabavics, Erin, Steven, and Kyle Koplitz; great-grandchildren, Colton, Colbie, Tyler, and Anne; and other dear relatives and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilton Spiegelberg; and sister, Jeanette Bringman.
A Funeral Service for Gleason will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St., Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach and Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Omro Cemetery on Monday, March 28. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the St. Paul's Child Care Center.
