Norma I. Handt, age 94, of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, March 27, 2011. She was born on August 27, 1916, in New London, the daughter of the late August and Mathilda (Fehrmann) Maertz. Norma graduated from New London High School in 1933, and married Wilmer "Bill" Johnson in September of 1933. They resided on the family homestead farm north of Winchester. For 40 years she was employed at Kimberly-Clark as a loyal office worker. Her husband Wilmer preceded her in death in August of 1959. Norma married Gilbert "Gibby" Handt in June of 1963 and they continued to make their home in Winchester. Norma was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, where she enjoyed participating in the ladies sewing circle, Bible studies, and in the company of her dear friends. Gilbert preceded her in death in April 2002.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Carol (John) Zitzner, of Winneconne; granddaughter, Starlene (David) Harris, of Brookfield; great-grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Harris, Jessica Harris, and great-great-grandson, J.D. Harris, all of Southaven, Mississippi. Through her marriage to Gibby, Norma is further survived by daughter-in-law, Rochelle (Randall) Heider, of Greenville; and grandchildren, Michael (Patricia) Heider, of Oshkosh; Scott (Nicole) Heider, of Appleton; Kim (Stephen) Maertz, of Greenville; Todd (Wendy) Heider, of Greenville; Tamara (Joel) Schmeltzer, of Appleton; Gregg (Holly) Handt, of Seymour; Noelle (Jon) Hauser, of Combined Locks; and Gary Handt ,of Appleton; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Along with her parents and husbands, Norma was also preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, and a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Handt.
A Funeral Service for Norma will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, of Winchester, Larsen, Wisconsin, with Pastor Dan Luett officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

We (my husband, son, and I) will be unable to attend memorial services due to hospitalization, but we wanted to share our condolences. I will always remember Great Aunt Norma's laugh; she was a beautiful woman.

I loved you,Aunt Norma. I especially loved you for your couriosity and zest for living. I knew I would count on you for a good laugh and wonderful stories about what you saw and did. Your were one of my favorite people.
