Dorothy Welcome Jungwirth
Winneconne, WI

Dorothy Welcome Jungwirth, 102, went to be with her husband, Jim, and their beloved son, Don, on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. She was born near Eureka, WI, on April 24, 1909, a daughter of Charles and Alice (McGregor) Liddle. She married James Jungwirth, of Poygan, in a private ceremony June 20, 1934. They farmed in the Town of Poygan until 1965. After the death of her husband on February 12, 2003, Dorothy continued to live on the family farm until the time of her death.
Dorothy graduated from Omro High School in 1927 then attended Normal School in order to become a teacher. She taught at Fisk School for one year, at Fremont for five years, and at Stone School for one year. She taught all eight grades in each of those schools.
She acted as "go-fer" for her son Don's auto repair shop by traveling wherever necessary to get auto parts he needed.
Until about age 100, she knit hundreds of pairs of mittens yearly to be given to needy children worldwide at Christmas time. She received a blue ribbon on a knitting project at the Winnebago County Fair.
Whenever she and "Jungle Jim" were able to squeeze in the time, they enjoyed driving around the local countryside in either their Corvette or BMW.
She is survived by six children: Sharon Hebert, Oshkosh, WI; Caroline (John) Overzet, Fond du Lac, WI; Kenneth (Chi Whitemarsh) Jungwirth (Major, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired) Winneconne, WI; Amy (Terry) Hathaway, Oshkosh, WI; Iris Bennett-Williams (Michael Williams), Sacramento, CA; Irene Jungwirth Campbell, Winneconne, WI; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Jungwirth, Winneconne, WI, and an honorary son, David (Julie) Schmude, Oshkosh, WI. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren: Cindy Frohrib, Caroline (Mike) Colburn, Cathleen Frohrib, Christina (Jon) Sheehy, Gregory Frohrib, Jacqueline (Ricky Bagoyo) Frohrib Bagoyo, Russell (Miriam Frost) Jungwirth, Andrew Jungwirth, Michelle Hathaway, Alan (Sara) Hathaway, Anne Hathaway, Ronald Bennett II, Matthew (Joyce Youmans) Campbell; Larry (Janet) Overzet, Connie Wheeler, Janice (Bill) Mason, and Leon (Sarah Cone) Williams; thirty-three great-grandchildren: Andrea Koehler, Jeffrey Koehler, Ashley Colburn, Kyle Colburn, Kelly Frohrib, Madylin Sheehy, Melissa Frohrib, Gregory Frohrib Jr., Brian Frohrib, Konala Frohrib Bagoyo, Ke'ale Bagoyo, Hailey Hathaway, Oscar Hathaway, Henry Hathaway, Courtney Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Tabitha Sandberg, Samuel Bennett; Katie, Nelson, Megan, and Marcus Overzet; Erlan, Logan, Lexie, Tori, Justin, and Jordan Wheeler; Madi and Julia Mason; Rebekah Lansu; and Brianna and Brandon Williams; three great-great-grandchildren: Kortnee Koehler, Caiden Knepfel, and Nevaeh Williams; a very special niece, Marlene Sauer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces; great-nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Alice Liddle; two brothers: Walter Liddle (infant) and Clyde Liddle; and three sisters: Lorene Resop, Ethel Barthels, and Carrie Joubert.
Memorials will be established in her name.
Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at Aurora Medical Center's ICU for the kind, loving care of our mother during her final days.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and will continue on Wednesday, June 1 at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial service will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery in the Town of Poygan.

As a neighbor ,I remember going to warm up at Dorthy's house on some cold winter sleigh ride days when I was growing up. She was always so nice. These are memories I will always remember.
