Marilyn A. Johnson
Omro, WI

Marilyn A. Johnson, age 76, of Omro, passed on to eternal life Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.
Marilyn was born October 7, 1934, at her family's home in the Town of Rushford, the youngest daughter of Dennison Dean and Alice Martha Daggett. She spent her youth on the family farm and attending Banner School, graduating from Omro High School as valedictorian in 1953. Marilyn furthered her education at Oshkosh State College, graduating with honors in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kindergarten-Primary Education. She was a member of Phi Beta Sigma and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Societies. A talented pianist throughout her life, Marilyn was an accompanist for numerous events including solo-ensemble competitions.
Marilyn married Ronald E. Johnson on June 30, 1962, in Waukau, WI. They resided briefly in Winneconne before moving to Omro where they raised their family.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Vivian Giddings, Gloria Sheppard, Daniel Daggett, and Norma Neubauer.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ronald; son, William (Connie) Johnson, of DeForest; daughter, Elizabeth Brooks, of Rhinelander; four grandchildren: Mitchell and Hanna Johnson, Sarah and Benjamin Brooks.
Simply put, Marilyn was a teacher. She started her career in 1959 along side her sister Norma at Pickett School. She moved on to South Park Elementary but made her mark at Sunset Elementary School in Oshkosh for twenty seven years, retiring in 1995. Marilyn truly enjoyed Sunset's unique, small school atmosphere and her relationships with students, parents and co-workers. A committed educator, she enjoyed mentoring the many student teachers who trained in her classroom. Marilyn's quiet and reserved nature hid a keen intellect and even sharper sense of humor. She made sure her children and grandchildren had opportunities she could only dream of. For that and so many other reasons she will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be on Sunday, June 5, 2011, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne with a Funeral Service to be held at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Cemetery.
Marilyn's family extends a special thank you to the staff of Mercy Medical Center, especially her doctors and those in the Intensive Care Unit. Many of you touched our lives in the past two weeks. Your compassion and care for all of us will always be remembered.
