Gertrude Erna Elsie Mittlestead
Neenah, WI

Gertrude Erna Elsie Mittlestead, age 94, of Neenah, entered eternal life on July 31, 2011. She was born May 1, 1917, in Winneconne to Ernest and Clara (Meyer) Utke. Gertrude was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. She graduated from Winneconne High School and attended Oshkosh State Teachers College. On May 25, 1946, Gertrude was united in marriage to Lewis Mittlestead at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. They lived in Neenah for 34 years before returning to Winneconne in 1982. Gertrude was a faithful member of Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church in Neenah. Following Gertrude's retirement from Aid Association for Lutherans she and Louie enjoyed volunteering for the Red Cross blood drives. They also enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends along the way. When Louie's health began to fail, they moved back to Neenah in 2002. Gertrude and Louie were married for 58 years prior to Louie's death in 2004.
Gertrude is survived by her three children, James (Judi) Mittlestead, of Ocala, FL; Marie (Christine Bitonti) Mittlestead, of Jamestown, CA; and Susan (Robert) Hochtritt, of Neenah; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Hochtritt, of Larsen; and Elizabeth Hochtritt, of Milwaukee.
Along with her parents and husband, Gertrude was also preceded in death by her brother, William Utke.
A Funeral Service for Gertrude will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church, 436 S. Lake St. Neenah, with Pastor Richard Krahn and Pastor Jason Oakland officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Winneconne Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Gertrude's name for Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church of Neenah and Time of Grace Ministries.
The family would like to thank Gertrude's friends, family and neighbors for all of the help, love and compassion they bestowed upon mom during her last years.
