Ronald L. Achterberg, age 68 of Winneconne, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, August 19, 2009, at his home. He was born on May 1, 1941 in Oshkosh, WI the son of the late Albert and Martha (Mittlestead) Achterberg.
Ron graduated from Winneconne High School in 1959. He married Betty Kunde on June 1, 1962 in Winneconne. Ron and Betty made their home in the Town of Winneconne where Ron farmed until 1988. Ron had also been employed at Badger Concrete, Kimberly Clark, Arrowhead Conveyor, and Wal-Mart. Ron enjoyed deer hunting, photography and woodworking. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church of Winneconne where he had served as an usher and was a member of St. Paul's Dart Ball Team #1.
Ron is survived by his wife, Betty Achterberg, one son, Shawn Achterberg, one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Koon, one granddaughter, Alexandra Koon, all of Winneconne; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Sharon Achterberg, of Oshkosh; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Rosemary Kunde, of Oshkosh; Judy and Dale Wilde of Oshkosh; Elaine and Leslie Romberg, of Winneconne; and a number of nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Patricia Kunde.
A Funeral Service for Ron will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St., Winneconne, with Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, August 22 at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Cremation will follow the Service.
