Margaret Lambert Bowden

Margaret Lambert Bowden, 95, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh where she had been a resident since May of 2006.
She was born June 14, 1916, in Grangemouth, Scotland to Herbert Brown and Margaret Lambert. On June 12, 1940, Margaret married Thomas Bowden in Alva, Scotland. During World War II, she lived with her parents and took care of her ailing mother while her husband served in the Royal Air Force for five years. Margaret also volunteered as a nurse with the Red Cross until the birth of their only child a daughter in 1941. Then after the war, the family moved to Denny, not too far, but close enough to visit and help her parents.
In June of 1949, Margaret and her daughter left Scotland to join her husband in Marshalltown, Iowa where her older sister and sponsor lived. Later, the family moved to Ottumwa, Iowa where her husband worked as a retail furniture salesman and decorating consultant. Margaret always found time to help others especially new immigrants. She joined several service groups like the Lionels. Her Scotch accent (Which she never lost), beautiful singing voice, and sunny disposition kept her happy throughout her life. Then on April 29, 1957, Margaret became Naturalized Citizen, along with her husband Tom, in Des Moines, Iowa. Numerous speaking engagements and concerts follow this exciting celebration and Margaret couldn't have been happier. She also loved to garden, sew, read, and write letters. This was the same year she went back to work to put her daughter through college to become a teacher. Margaret managed Williams Dairy for several years and then Fanny Farmers Candy store until her husband retired.
Margaret and Tom moved to a retirement community in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas where they worked part-time and were active in the Methodist church. She sang in the choir and with a group called the Blenders. After many years they moved to Sun City, Florida and travel extensively. But in November of 1984 they moved back to the "Bend" the place they enjoyed most (a small rural community). Margaret sang at weddings, funerals and nursing homes. Once again, she was in her element!
Margaret moved to Wisconsin in October 2001 after her husband Tom passed away where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law on Lake Poygan until she entered Park View Health Center in 2006.
Survivors include her only daughter, Margaret (Art) Moratz, of Larsen, WI; one grandson, Craig Moratz, of Larsen; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Paige, of Raytown, Missouri; and Craig Moratz II ( better known as C.J.)
Margaret Bowden was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister; two grandchildren, Scott Andrew and Brian Thomas Moratz.
