John Kromm
Larsen, WI

John Kromm, age 97, of Larsen died Saturday September 3, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born May 21, 1914, in Calgary, Canada to the late Peter and Elizabeth (Goerlitz) Kromm. He immigrated with his family to Wisconsin in 1918. John attended German school through the sixth grade, when family needs dictated he help more on the family farm. On May 18, 1946, John married Adeline Schuhart, the love of his life, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. In 1947, he and his brother Dan bought a farm in Omro. In 1956, a dairy farm in Larsen was purchased where he and his four sons farmed until he retired in 1979. John was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and will be remembered for his deep baritone voice singing "Silent Night" in German each Christmas Eve. He was an amazing story teller, and he loved to tell the stories of his life, the old country, the Bible and his family in vivid detail. John was a man with enormous, strong hands, but with an even larger heart, and he loved his wife, his sons, his family and his Lord with a passion.
John is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Peggy A. Kromm, of Tomahawk; Alan M. and Linda C. Kromm, of Larsen; Randall M. and Elizabeth D. Kromm, of Larsen; Paul T. and Julie A. Kromm, of Wauwatosa; eight grandchildren, John T., Christopher, Jeff (Dawn), Mike (April), Amanda, Jacob, Max and Sam; and five great-grandchildren Cassie, Justin, Kennedi, Mya and Avielle; his brother, Dan (Beverly) Kromm; and his sister, Pauline (Ira) Frasch.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, four brothers, and his beloved Adeline.
A celebration of John's amazing life will be held on Thursday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, Larsen, Wisconsin, with Pastor Dan Luett officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
