Donald C. Zimmerman, age 93, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully Monday, December 30, 2019, at home with his family at his side. He was born March 28, 1926, in Fond du Lac to the late Carl and Martha (Schade) Zimmerman. Don served his country during WW II as a Fireman in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 and then as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1947-1951. On September 20, 1952, he married the love of his life, Glorianna Gebauer from Poygan at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. Don’s work career included being employed at Ruepings in Fond du Lac, Foster Lothmans and Morgan Doors in Oshkosh, and retired from Bergstrom Paper/P.H. Glatfelter in Neenah. For many years Don was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Don was involved in scouting and served as a scout leader, was a handyman and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and while younger racing his stock car with his brother-in-law at the old Oshkosh fairgrounds. He was a member of a cribbage league for 28 years and played in many cribbage and sheepshead tournaments and enjoyed traveling with bus trips to Canada, Mexico, and most of the United States with his wife. In 2012 he enjoyed taking the Honor Flight to Washington DC with other veterans.

Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Glorianna; four children, Robert (Ginger) Zimmerman, Stephen (Audrey) Zimmerman, Carla Zimmerman, Mark Zimmerman; grandchildren, Matthew (Julie) Zimmerman, Miranda Zimmerman, Benjamin Zimmerman, Noel Zimmerman; step-grandchildren, Amanda (Gary Jr.) Schmackle, Kelly (Chad) Enright; great-grandchildren, Cody, Lillianne, and Kendaleigh Zimmerman, MacKenzie McCauley, Gary III, and Gavin Schmackle, Abby and Molly Enright; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gareth and Marion Sternitske, William and JoNell Gebauer, of Tennessee, Jeannette Gebauer; and several nieces and nephews.     

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry Sr. and Frances Gebauer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Dorothy, Paul and Sally, George and Dorothy, Ralph and Goody, and Billy Zimmerman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Hank Schneider, Emily and Bill Schneider, Sally and Jim LaPine; and brother-in-law, Henry Gebauer Jr.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at First English Lutheran Church 1013 Minnesota St. Oshkosh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Timothy Greenwald officiating. Military honors will follow. Burial will be in the Liberty Prairie Cemetery in Pickett.
