Don Schweiss

Don was best known for a smile on his face, a story to share, and his infectious laugh!! He was creative and artistic, and a very talented painter! He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and boating! He so cherished is time with family, and creating games and activities for his young children, such as leaf forts, obstacle courses, haunted houses, and ice rinks! Don was wonderful with home projects! He was always happy to give family, friends, and neighbors a helping hand! 

Don was born on May 1, 1939, to Florian and Opal Schweiss, he had an older sister Mariann, a twin brother Danny, and a younger brother Richard. He grew up in Webster Groves, MO. He graduated from Webster Groves High in 1957. In 1961 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Advertising Design from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. 

On June 3, 1961, Don married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie Munson. Don and Jeannie had five wonderful children: Linette, Claire, David, Karen, and Melissa. They moved to Neenah, WI from Long Island, NY in 1970 where he had been a Commercial Artist and Production Manager at McGraw Hill in New York, NY. Don and Jeannie were very involved with Riverside Players in Neenah, WI. For many years Don was a Set Designer, Scenic Painter, and Advertising Artist for Riverside Players. Don was a Service Director for Banta Corp for 25 years, retiring in August of 1996.

Don and Jeannie were divorced 1978, Don got remarried to Mary Lattimer in August of 1982, they were divorced 9 years later.

Don met Fran Leher in the Fall of 1992; they have been together ever since! They lived in Larsen, WI and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling together! He became a valued member of her family. Don was a very active member of The Boom Bay Heights Improvement Association, and the Lake Poygan Sportsmen’s Club.

Don is survived by his loving partner, Fran Leher; his daughters, Linette (Jeffery) Nys, Claire Schweiss, Karen (Randy) Flesch, Melissa “Mo” (Mark) Thomas; his nine grandchildren, Kelsey (Mitch) Rady, Haley (Sam) Bertram, Cooper Flesch, Kacey Nys, Garrett (Rachel) Zoromski, Grant Zoromski, Morgan Thomas, Thatcher Thomas, and Westley Thomas; his three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Rady, Finn Rady, and William Bertram.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Opal Schweiss; his beloved son, David A. Schweiss; and his twin brother, Danny Schweiss.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, February 22, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. There will be no services on Monday. Cremation will follow. A private funeral service will be held and interment with military honors will be at the Lakeview Cemetery, town of Wolf River.

I'm so sorry and sad over the loss of my dear Uncle Donny. My heart goes out to Fran, Linette, Karen, Mo, Claire and all their families and friends. Donny was a wonderful guy. A good man. I always enjoyed visiting with him, Fran and her brother when they'd visit Florida. I'll be there in Spirit for the visitation on Monday.
