Susan L. Sonnen, age 68, of Winneconne, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at home. She was born February 11, 1943, in Milwaukee to the late John and Lorraine (Mueller) Engel.
For 7 years she worked for the JCPenney Outlet Center. In 1981, Susan earned an Associate Degree in Information Systems. For 25 years Susan was employed with Aurora working in computer programmer analysis, until her retirement in 2005. Two months after retirement, Susan was diagnosed with renal cancer and she went through a year of chemo treatment, and enjoyed five cancer free years, and in October of 2010 the cancer came back.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, and walking with her loving dog, Bandit. Susan traveled to many different national parks across the United States. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.
Susan is survived by her four children, Wayne Sonnen ,of Atlanta, Georgia; Cynthia (Jim) Wright, of Winneconne; Kenneth Sonnen, of Milwaukee; Daniel (Karen) Sonnen, of Marion, Iowa; her grandchildren, Timothy Schwartz, Jason (Courtney) Wright, Ashley Wright, Kamian Wright, Michael Sonnen, Grace Sonnen, and Emma Sonnen; three sisters, Judy (Dick) Foster, of Muskego; Ruth (Bernard) Boretsky, of New Berlin; and Barb (Ron) Eder, of Milwaukee; her special friend, John King; and other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr., Winneconne, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, January 7 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Susan's name to Aurora Hospice, Oshkosh, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Oshkosh would be appreciated.
Susan's family wishes to thank Dr. Dar, Dr. Hise, and their staffs, and the staff of Aurora Hospice, especially Jess, for all of the care and concern given to her.
