Nancy Jean (Riley) Luaders

Nancy Jean (Riley) Luaders, age 80, passed into Eternal Life on Sunday morning, January 22, 2012.
She was the first born child of Gertrude and Lyman Riley, arriving on December 4, 1931. She spent a happy childhood in Winneconne, growing up with her sister Eleanor and brother Lyman, Jr. "Pinkie". Nancy enjoyed high school where she was a cheerleader for the Winneconne Wolves. Her teen years were spent with good friends, Bebe Jenss, Bonnie Olson Borchert, Barb Larsen Eckstein, and her favorite cousin, Riley Peterson.
Nancy graduated from Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri with a B.A. in Merchandise Marketing Design. After college she married Earl J. Luaders, Jr. and they lived in Wisconsin, Connecticut, and California. Nancy and her son, Earl III, returned home to Winneconne in 1965. She shared a home with her father and mother, Lyman and Gertrude Riley for the next 25 years.
Her family will remember her for her love of Springer Spaniels, her delight in sunny weather, her appetite for reading and her Saturday noon meals cooked for her son and grandchildren. She was the first hostess in the Bellevue dining room of the newly built Pioneer Inn in Oshkosh, the position she held for over 25 years, and where she met her longtime friends, Pat and Tessie. Nancy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winneconne for over 45 years.
In retirement, Nancy moved to New London to be close to her son. She enjoyed her summers out on her deck overlooking the Wolf River, her winters cozying up to her fireplace with a good book, rooting for the Packers, Brewers, Cardinals, and Badgers, and staying in touch with her grandchildren who all called her "Gamma Nana".
Nancy will be remembered lovingly by her son, Atty. Earl J. Luaders III; her grandchildren, Alex (Amanda), Kelly, Matthew, and their mother, Maureen. She will be missed by her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Stelly, Finn, Aiden, as well as her beloved sister, Eleanor (Jim); and brother, Lyman, Jr. "Pinkie" (Mary); and her close friend and cousin, Dr. Arthur "Riley" (Marilyn) Peterson, and their children.
Nancy's family would like you to know that she carried the heavy burden of diabetes for 50 years. During the last 5 years, she endured numerous falls, fractures, and hospitalizations as a result of this disease. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation would honor her brave struggle.
Earl would like to thank all those people in New London who were so kind to his mother during the time she lived there. He would also like to thank Dr. Houlihan and the third floor nurses of New London Family Medical Center for their kindness and compassion during her final days.
A Memorial Service for Nancy will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 32 S. Third Ave., Winneconne, with Pastor Mara Rivera officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
