Roy C. Deiss, age 69, of Winneconne, WI died peacefully early Thursday morning, April 5, 2012, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on Feb. 5, 1943 in Winneconne, WI, the son of the late Henry F. and Sophie (Kittelson) Deiss. Roy graduated from Winneconne H.S. in 1961. Roy honored his country by serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Waller from 1962 to 1964. He married Betty Thiel on May 28, 1966, in Winchester, WI and they have made their home in Winneconne for the past 45 years. Roy was a commercial electrician and had worked for various contractors and for the last 20 years at Bemis Corp. He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church of Winneconne, the Giles Luce American Legion Post 364 of Winneconne, the Local IBEW 577 and the Tuesday Men's Golf League at Lake Breeze Golf Course. Upon retirement Roy and Betty traveled during the winter months to many warm golfing destinations. They most recently resided in Harlingen, TX as "Winter Texans" and met many great friends. Roy was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He enjoyed doing home improvement projects and spending time with his family.
Roy is survived by his wife, Betty Deiss, of Winneconne; two daughters and their families, Lori and Jim Oppermann, of Oshkosh, WI; and their children Tyler, Leah, and Liz; Darci Thompson, of Maryville, TN; and her children, Caleb and Tanner; one sister, Irene Ristow, of Winneconne; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Armstrong, Bev and Curly Wiita, Connie and Jerry Sauer, John and Jo Thiel, Jim Thiel; and a number of nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Along with his parents, Roy was also preceded in death by one brother, Dick Deiss; one brother-in-law, Harvey Ristow; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Sylvia Thiel.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday April 9, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St. Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach and Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Roy's family would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone involved in Roy's cancer journey for all of their loving care, compassion, and concern; especially to Pastor Covach and Pastor Albrecht for their many visits and prayers, and to Dr. Klinkhammer and the Affinity Visiting Nurses Hospice Services for their involvement.
