Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Raymond J. Schlinder
Fremont, Wisconsin
Raymond J. Schlinder, age 88, of Fremont, died peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home in King, Wisconsin. He was born December 10, 1923, in Granville, Illinois.
A World War II Marine of the 6th Division, he survived a mortal wound during the battle(s) for Sugar Loaf Hill in Okinawa, Japan, and lived on to revel in life, like no other. On April 17, 1948, Ray married Margaret "Muggs" Ackermann, and she preceded him in death on December 29, 2008. Ray's zest for life was infectious! He became a very successful businessman, a fisherman (par excellence), he loved to "slap-a-slipper", and he was always up for a game of cards; "Cribbage, Sheeps-Head, Gin, Poker, anyone?" His positive, robust spirit and his love of life will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Ray was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great friend.
Ray is survived by: son, R. Michael (Susan) Schlinder, grandchildren, Jennifer (Aaron) Anderson, Daniel Schlinder; son, Patrick (Victoria) Schlinder, grandchildren, Sarah (Joseph) Ruback, Meghan (Jeff) Cox, Jessica Schlinder, Andrew Schlinder, great-granddaughter, Caitlin June Cox; son, Thomas (Julie) Schlinder, grandchildren, Jonathon Schlinder, Katie Schlinder.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Military honors will follow the Mass. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
A celebration of Ray's life will continue after the Mass and military honors at the Fin n Feather Restaurant, 22 W. Main St. Winneconne.
In lieu of flowers, Ray requested that you make a donation in his name to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or the Veterans organization of your choice: "They need it more than I need flowers." Ray.
