Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Jack V. Perry, of Winneconne, was born to eternal life on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the age of 91. He was born in Black Creek, Wisconsin to Verne and Genevieve (Servatius) Perry on July 24, 1921. Jack graduated from North High School in Sheboygan and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for three years. At this time, his schooling was interrupted to serve his country in the Army in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Three and a half years later, Jack returned to Stevens Point to complete his degree.
Jack began his teaching career in Melrose, Wisconsin for four years as music director for band and choral groups. In 1951 he came to Winneconne and was the band director for five years. In 1954 he received his Master of Science Degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
On July 19, 1958, he married Joanne Kronitz in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Peggy Kronitz. This was the first double wedding performed at St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.
Jack remained in the Winneconne school system for 35 years teaching Sociology, American Government, and World Geography and loved coaching Debate for ten years. In his last years of teaching, he added Economics and Political Science. Of particular pride was the fact that his band continually received first place in their division at music events each year.
After retirement, Jack and Joanne took 43 trips throughout the United States with Nationwide Travelers.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Mike King, residing in North Fond du Lac; Jackie and Jim Schultz, residing in Rosemount, Minnesota; four granddaughters, Caitlyn and Kelly King, Samantha and Courtney Schultz; and one sister, Jeann Perry, residing in Denver, Colorado.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. On January 15, 1997, while on a trip, Jack wrote the following:
My Prayer
It's time to face my mortality,
Most of my days are gone,
It's hard to accept that reality,
When one has live so long.
The days dwindle down to a precious few,
As they sing in September song,
Each one is as fresh as the morning dew,
But now they race along.
When finally I feel the end is near,
And I take my last long breath,
I pray to see my God appear,
For now, I fear not death.

I, too, offer my sympathy to Mr. Perry's family. I could never get used to calling teacher's by their first names. He was a wonderful teacher and person, and very active in St. Mary's Catholic Church. My mother kept me informed about his activities and I'm glad she did.

I was so fortunate to be a student in Mr Perry's Winneconne high school class in 1966. I regard him as one of my favorite teachers and his dry humor and rapport with his students. My public speaking business and career opportunities go back to his classes. He will be missed, but the poem he wrote in 1997, is so touching. My sincere sympathy to his family and friends. He touched many people and made a lasting positive impact in so many.

So lucky to call this man my grandfather. I miss you so much. I love all the memories I have with you. You were the smartest man I have ever met. I love you. Have fun up there. Don't do TOO many crossword puzzles!

Mr. Perry was one of the best teachers I had in all my years of education, and feel blessed to have been his student. More than once in my forty-three-year teaching career I found myself quoting Mr. Perry. I send my sincere condolences to the family of this fine man.

Jack and I had many wonderful times together; teaching, playing in the Oshkosh Area Community Band, and just being great friends. He will be missed. God bless all of you and God bless Jack's memory.

My sincere sympathy to Jack's family. Mr. Perry, as I knew him, was my social studies teacher for several classes at W.H.S. from 1957-1961. I was in his very first debate class and appreciated his dry humor and his fairness. I am retired now, but taught school in Waukesha for over 30 years and can appreciate his dedication now more than ever. He will be missed.
