Mildred "Mickey" A. Markert passed away peacefully at Oakwood Manor Assisted Living facility in Oshkosh on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the age of 92.
She was born July 30, 1920, to the late Robert and Viola (Pommeraning) Fisher. Mickey was born and raised on a farm in Omro and very early on became very fond of horses. She took every opportunity to ride with or without her parent's permission. She eventually married the love of her life, Philip A. Markert on July 20, 1940. Mickey and Phil opened Markert's Hardware Store in Winneconne and it was well known and successful for 39 years. Upon their retirement in 1984, Mickey and Phil traveled to many places and spent their winters in Texas.
Mickey became a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had served as president for a number of years. She had an appreciation for flowers and she enjoyed gardening, horses, bowling with great friends, getting together with members of the local birthday club, and spending time with her family of five. For many years Mickey was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.
Mickey will be sadly missed by many people, she was truly loved by all who knew her and touched many lives during her time here with us.
Mickey is survived by her children, Robert Markert, Daniel (Paula) Markert, Carol Markert (Mary Jo Cook), and Philip (Lori) Markert; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Mickey was also preceded in death by her husband, Philip A. Markert on May 2, 1995; a daughter, Sharon Markert Fuerst; and two brothers, Clifford and Marvin Fisher.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr., Winneconne, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday at the church from Noon until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Heartland Hospice.

Dear Family. I am so sorry for the loss of one amazing lady. I fondly remember playing horseshoes with Aunt Mickey and Uncle Phil and learning how to play poker with them as well. My sympathies to all of you at this time. Love, Jody

I enjoyed my visits with Mickey and I will miss her. She was a wonderful and caring lady with a good sense of humor. As with many of us, she had her regrets. Her peace will be in seeing Phil and Sharon again. My condolences to each of you.
