Charlotte “Nani” Verkuilen, age 80, of Winneconne died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the American Grand Assisted Living in Neenah. She was born May 15, 1940, in Seaford, Delaware to the late Kenneth and Sarah (Hatton) Fleetwood. Char was a 1958 graduate of Seaford High School. She attended the University of Miami, where she met David “Butch” Verkuilen. In 1960 they were married and they lived in Washington D.C. and Rhode Island before moving to Winneconne in 1968. Char loved being a stay-at-home mom. Char and Butch spent their winters in Florida, and she enjoyed spending time with family, attending all of the grandkid’s activities, reading, playing golf, traveling, and card club with friends.
Charlotte is survived by two sons, Michael Verkuilen, of Appleton; Mark (Leslie) Verkuilen, of Larsen; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Austin) Wessell, of Verona; Morgan Verkuilen (special friend, Parker Seubert), of Longmont, Colorado; Jordyn Verkuilen, of Larsen; Addison Verkuilen, of Larsen; a great-grandson, Rowan Wessell; MacKenzie and Morgan’s mother, Pam Norton Verkuilen; a brother-in-law, Tom (Julie) Verkuilen, of Winneconne; nephew, Tim Verkuilen; niece, Amy (Bill) Struensee; Carlene Verkuilen, widow of Al Verkuilen; many friends; and her dog friend, Casey.
Along with her parents, Char was also preceded in death by her husband, David; and a daughter, Jami Verkuilen.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, April 23, 2021, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rose Unser officiating. Burial will follow in the Winneconne Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Charlotte’s family wishes to thank the staff of American Grand, especially Christy, and the Heartland Hospice staff, especially Nicki and Mike, for all of the care given to her.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear mom. I have so many wonderful memories of her when I was a close friend to Jami. It is never easy but know that she is now reunited with her parents, your dad, and Jami. What a celebration they are having in Heaven......My thoughts and prayers will be with you always.....

My condolences to everyone in the family. I had the pleasure to bowl in the Wednesday Morning Flower Garden League at Marble Park with Char and Jean. I have such fond memories. I am sure she is bringing smiles to everyone's faces in heaven.
