Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Ruth Elizabeth Spiegelberg was born October 10, 1926, at home in the township of Rushford, Winnebago County Wisconsin to William W. Knutzen and Elizabeth C. Relien Knutzen. She attended Rural Blue Bell School and was a graduate of Omro High School. Music was always a part of her life beginning with the piano and singing for church and progressed to performing in public and private events.
On December 27, 1946, Ruth married Gleason F. Spiegelberg at Grace Lutheran Church in Omro, WI. They owned and operated a farm in the township of Poygan for 56 years and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary there until his death on March 23, 2011. Gleason joined her in their love of music with his piano accordion and her button box accordions. Ruth belonged to the polka band, The Polka Pals. They enjoyed jam sessions with musician friends in the Valley and also in their winters in Arizona.
She loved her family and prayed for them daily. She enjoyed all the preparation for the family gatherings and grandchildren’s stay-overs. Ruth is especially known for making the annual Jesus’ Birthday Cake.
She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winneconne, WI. Ruth took part in the choir, Ladies Aid, and Women’s Missionary Society, and the prayer chain. She was a Sunday School teacher, service, and other mission groups for many years at Grace Lutheran in Omro, WI. Ruth found joy in mission work and loved to tell the story of Jesus’ love to when she had the opportunity. She was a 4-H Leader for the Poygan Go-Getters. Other interests included reading, music, baking, flowers, politics and genealogy.
Ruth is survived by her three children, two sons, one daughter and their families: Jack (Sharon) Spiegelberg of Winneconne, Chuck (Donna) Spiegelberg of Oshkosh, Jane (Rick) Koplitz of Omro. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelations 2:10

May God give you solace and peace. Another angel has joined the choir in heaven. I was fortunate to be the one who delivered the Christmas goodies from the Ladies Aid to Ruth the Christmas before the virus. It was wonderful to sit and visit with her. I miss seeing you Jane. May the Lord hold all of you in his loving arms. Mary
