Eugene "Gene" Hoger

Eugene "Gene" Hoger, age 78, of Poygan, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, October 20, 2009, of complications from leukemia. He was born October 30, 1930, in Tomah, Wisconsin, to the late Rudy and Sally (Tester) Hoger. On April 8, 1950, he married Janis Anunson at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester. Gene had many occupations throughout his life and he was a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, with a heart as big as the outdoors and a zest for life the Poygan way. He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne.
Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janis Hoger, of Poygan; three daughters, Teddi Purcell, of New South Wales; Jan (Lance) Halder, of Poygan; and Kelly (John) Wisnefske, of Larsen; grandchildren, Adam (Jamie) Halder, Molly (Jacob) DePagter, Laura (Justin) Dempsey, and Samantha Boe (fiancé, Adam Merkley); and great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Jaidyn Halder. He is also survived by their special sons, "the Brown Boys", Dan, Steve, Mark "Bongo", Tim, and their families; two sisters, Darlene Porter, of Wilton, Wisconsin; Marlene Dega, of Oshkosh; two brothers, Melvin (Sandy) Hoger, of Madison; Russ Hoger, of Winneconne; and nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
Along with his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by a son, Reed Hoger; and a son-in-law, Allan Boe.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St. Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, October 23, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and will continue on Saturday at the church from 9:00
a.m. until the time of the service.
Gene's family would like to thank Pastor Covach and Pastor Albrecht for their comforting words and prayers. They also wish to thank the P.C.U. 1 staff at Mercy Medical Center for the quality care given to him and the many kindnesses shown to them.
