Mayme Mildred (Knapp) Kent, 94, Larsen, passed away peacefully on her 94th birthday at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home, Midway Road, Menasha, after a two year residency there. She was born on August 17, 1919, in the town of Deer Creek, the daughter of Arthur and Ella (Schultz) Knapp. Mayme was raised by her father and dear Aunt Mildred after her mother and father divorced when Mayme was very young. Prior to her marriage, Mayme prepared daily meals for the farm crew, including canning, baking bread, and keeping the Bear Creek area farmhouse clean and orderly. She married Gilbert J. Kent in New London on April 23, 1938. Gilbert "Gib" preceded her in death in June, 1983. Mayme worked for several years "on the muck" for the Emil and Doris Lenz' farm market in Winchester and then for Concord Cheese factory by Neenah before it closed. She later was employed by the State of Wisconsin Parkview Health Center, Oshkosh, on the custodial staff until her retirement in 1981. Mayme's greatest joys were dancing the polka, baking bread and pies, and spending time with her family and friends. She was well known for her delicious, freshly baked bread - surprising her doctor, friends, and neighbors on occasion with a fresh loaf. Mayme enjoyed spending time and traveling in the U.S. with her special friend, Harold "Casey" Jones, Neenah, during her later retirement years.
Mayme is survived by her son, Ron "Tobe" (Arlene) Kent, Oshkosh; grandchildren, Laura (Reno) Knudsen, Manitowoc; Leah (Chad) Corrigan, DePere; Rick (Wendy) Zeinert, Larsen; Mike (Deb) Zeinert, Neenah; Brenda (Lee) Christianson, Larsen; Terry Kent, Black Creek; Jim (Mary) Kent, Black Creek; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Herb Zeinert, Larsen.
Mayme was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gilbert in 1983; son Robert L. Kent in 2008; daughter Carol Zeinert in 2013; granddaughters Bobbi Jo Kent and Kim Kent; and great-grandson, Steven Zeinert.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Dr. Larsen with Pastor Dan Luett officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester. A visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday at the church from Noon until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Grace Lutheran Church in Mayme's name.
The family would like to thank the Oakridge Gardens staff in Menasha for two years of excellent care and support for "Grandma".
Please submit online condolences to muellerfuneralhomeinc.com.
