Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Josepha Welsch, 94 died surrounded by her family on March 4, 2014, only 44 days after her beloved husband Andrew of 60 years died. She was born on December 27, 1919, in Viernheim West Germany and met Andy after the war. They married in 1954 and came to the United States where they settled on Lake Poygan.
Josepha is survived by her loving family, daughter, Ute Alto, of Neenah; son, Rudy (Patricia) Wiegand, of Brown Deer; her grandchildren, Carmen (David) Smith, Hales Corners; Rebecca Vold, Omro; Scott (Sonya) Wiegand, Two Rivers; Sabina (Steve) Schultz, Elkhart Lake; and Michael Alto, Neenah; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathe Schad, Germany; two special nieces, Ulrike (Dr.Wolfgang) Schmid, Germany; Dorothee Marquardt, Germany; sisters-in-law, Elfriede Winkenbach, Germany; Jeanette Widdup, West Allis; and many other relatives both in Germany and here.
Along with her parents Jakob and Sabina Winkenbach, Josepha was also preceded in death by her husband, Andy; a son-in-law, David Alto; a grandson, Eric Wiegand; two brothers, Hans and Willi Winkenbach, Germany; sister, Lena (Heinrich) Kulhwein, Germany; and brother-in-law, Karl Schad, Germany.
Josepha will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of music and the wonderful German traditions and customs she brought with her. She loved her family above all else and showed her selfless love through her special talent in baking and cooking for everyone that came home. WE WILL ALL MISS OUR SPECIAL OMA!
A special thank you to Cindy, Barb, and the entire staff at Affinity Hospice; her at home caregivers, Erin and Debbie; for not only the kind and compassionate care they gave Josepha but the support they provided to the family.
A private funeral Mass was held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne where she and Andy were lifelong members. Inurnment followed the Mass in the Winneconne Cemetery.
