Joan Harriet (Vander Wyst) Moericke, age 91, of Seymour, formerly of the town of Winneconne, died Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born in Appleton on January 8, 1930, to the late Joseph and Cecelia (Wydeven) Vander Wyst of Little Chute. Joan was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Little Chute. On September 2, 1950, she married Clarence Moericke. For 24 years, Joan worked as an elementary school secretary for the Neenah Joint School District until her retirement. She was a member of: the Wisconsin Association of School Secretaries, the Abe Lincoln Association of Beagle Clubs where she had served as vice-president, the Wisconsin Association of Beagle Clubs, the St. Thomas/Forest Hill Cemetery Association where she served as secretary/treasurer, and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church-Winneconne.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Wickesberg, of Seymour; Cynthia (Pat) McGinnis, of Winneconne; grandchildren, Jessica Kain, of Oshkosh; Michelle (Duane Jr.) Skenandore, of Oneida; Rachel (Kyle) Thibodeau, of Winchester; great-grandchildren, Melinda Hebbe, of Oshkosh; Rayauna Skenandore, Jaxon Skenandore, Duane Skenandore III, all of Oneida; River Thibodeau, of Winchester; brother-in-law, Howard Moericke, of North Dakota and Arizona; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.    

Along with her parents, Joan was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1995; a sister, Virginia Wydeven; special friend, Oscar Calanca; and many in-laws. 

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne. There will be no visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will be at the St. Thomas Cemetery, Poygan following the Mass. The Mass will be live streamed; go to stmarychurches.org and click on St. Mary’s Winneconne Live Stream to view.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joan’s name are being established for: the St. Mary’s Faith Formation Program for needy students, and the St. Thomas Cemetery for maintenance.
