Marjorie Ann (Sorenson) Krings, 98, of Winneconne passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. Marge had been a resident of the village of Winneconne since 1945 until moving to an assisted living facility in 2019.

Born May 23, 1923, to Mary (Nelson) and Louis Sorenson, Marge grew up in the Larsen/Winchester area. She considered herself fortunate to grow up on a dairy farm in a family that loved animals. In her later years she wrote about times spent cross-country skiing on moonlit nights, walking in the woods admiring trees, playing with the farm cats and kittens, and showing calves at the fair.

Marge was proud of being a country-school student and Neenah High School graduate. She had a lifelong thirst for books and learning. Even after reading became too difficult, she could be seen (or heard) with her TV on full blast watching documentaries, National Geographic, or political news, especially CNN. All six of her daughters grew up knowing that high school graduation would not be the end of education for them.

On August 23, 1943, Marge married William “Bill” Krings of Winneconne at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, Washington. Bill, a machinist, worked in the Navy shipyards repairing vessels damaged in the Pacific war effort. Traveling by ferries from Bremerton to Seattle, Marge did clerical work at the headquarters of the 13th Naval District. She recalled the ferries having to wait for the submarine nets to open to allow their passage through.

Marge and Bill returned to live in Winneconne after the end of World War II. Together they raised six daughters: Barb Harrison and Jean (Joe) Wiegand of Winneconne; Patricia (Jeff) Allen, of San Francisco; Joan Domke (deceased), of Oshkosh; Mary Darling, of Mequon; and Linda Vadnais, of Appleton. Marge also had two grandsons: Bill Harrison (Troy Vallafskey) and Steve (Margo) Harrison. Keeping to the family tradition, she had nine granddaughters: Jill (Jim) Reinert, Katharine Allen (Evan), Jessamyn (Chris Palmar) Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Amber (Joel) Lowrey, Brenna Darling, Cailyn Darling, Abbey Vadnais and Alayna Vadnais. The newest family arrivals include seven great-grandchildren: Grant, Dayne and Olivia Harrison, Will Diener, Hugh and Alec, and Lilly Lowrey. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter, Joan; son-in-law, Steve Vadnais; parents, Mary and Louis Sorenson; siblings, Dorothy Sorenson, Ralph (Doris) Sorenson, Irene (Carl) Woizeski, Marie (Harry) Christensen, Pete (Almeda) Sorenson, and Mabel (Bud) Smith; as well as the Krings in-laws.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Winneconne Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Winneconne Public Library.

If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfh.net.

Gram, you have been and will always be the shining light in my life. Thank you for all the beautiful memories and life lessons you taught me. I will forever continue to do you proud. I love you Gram. That carries over to where you are now. Be at peace. Save a booth for us for lunch for when my day comes so we can do Cheeseburgers for lunch up there. Miss you terribly but I know you are back in the arms of Grandpa where you belong. See you when I see you. Until then time to practice what you taught me on my own. Love you dearly! Billy
