Richard “Kalby” C. Kalbus Sr. age 84, of Butte des Morts, died Monday, December 6, 2021, at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. He was born September 25, 1937, in Oshkosh to the late Harvey Sr. and Edna (Graper) Kalbus. Dick was a 1956 graduate of Oshkosh High School. From 1956 until 1960 he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Kalby drove truck for a living and of all the trucking companies, the only one that survived him is Yellow. He enjoyed playing sheepshead and cribbage, bowling at T & O Lanes, gardening, and sitting under the tree looking at the lake and the busy Butte des Morts roads. Miller-you have a problem-watch for a significant stock decline. Pre-Covid, Kalby had to visit his beer joints to discuss and solve the world’s problems and enter the football pools. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with many successes. He spent decades sturgeon spearing to no avail, but good venison was grilled and ingested each year. However, all species of wildlife had a short life span when Kalby was around, including starlings! “One Shot Kalby”. He was a member of the Butte des Morts Conservation Club, Sturgeons for Tomorrow, and was a charter member of the Butte des Morts Lions Club, where he was awarded the Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellow for his humanitarian services.

Dick is survived by the love of his life for 30 years, Connie Erpelding, of Butte des Morts; a son, Richard C. Jr. (Shawn) Kalbus, of Fremont; a daughter, Kathy Kalbus Eid (Mike Klika), of Berlin; a brother, Robert (Donna) Kalbus, of Oshkosh; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Along with his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Kalbus Jr.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeannie Douglas officiating. Military honors will follow. The Kalbus family would appreciate the wearing of face coverings when attending. Please note if traveling to the funeral home from the west; there is a Winneconne holiday parade and Main Street from 3rd Ave. to 3rd Street, which includes the bridge, will be closed starting at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh.

If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfh.net.
