Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Gloria M. Armstrong, age 84, of Winchester, passed away early Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, at her apartment in Oakwood Manor, Oshkosh. She was born May 29, 1929, the middle child of Edwin and Mollie Anunson. Gloria graduated from Winneconne High School in 1947. In 1948 she married Robert W. Armstrong. Gloria was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church, Winchester and taught Sunday and Bible school and belonged to the Rebekah Circle there. For over 20 years she worked as a sales associate at the Larsen Co-op in the hardware department. In her retirement Gloria enjoyed waiting on people at the Neenah Farmers' Market for Allen's Allenville Produce on Saturday mornings. Gloria was a smiling, loyal, hard-working, and devoted wife (62 years!), mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She valued family and her faith. Gloria loved the color blue, cats, travel, golf, long walks around Winchester with Bob-years before walking was trendy. She loved the fact that she had Packers season tickets! Gloria particularly enjoyed supporting the running career of her grandson, Jason, following him across the country from Boston to San Diego. She treasured all the family's exploits and adventures and spent much time amusing herself and others with her keen sense of humor, and, all the while she taught us everything we needed to know. Gloria was a great, classy lady and a lot of fun. She will be forever missed.
Gloria was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bob, on April 7, 2010. With great sadness, Gloria also lost a grandson, Hesston Rush Allen in 2006.
Gloria is survived by her four daughters, "the girls": Gail (Mike) Hofberger, of Chilton; Becky Ryf, of Oshkosh; Christine (Russell) Allen, of Winneconne; Terri (Randall) Kasuboski, of Winneconne; six grandchildren, Jason Ryf (Charity Brand), of Oshkosh; Jess (Sarah) Hofberger, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Molly (Karl) Haffele, of Madison; Tyler Kasuboski, of Oshkosh; Celia (Ryan) Zeinert, of Sun Prairie; and Ross Allen, of Milwaukee; three great-grandsons, Hans Robert Haffele and the twins, Hugo and Leo Haffele. Extended family members include Koran Ryf and Mike Waltenberry. She is also survived by one sister, Janice Hoger, of Poygan; and one brother, Bruce (Marilyn) Anunson, of Neenah.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Dr. Larsen. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at the church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Luett officiating, luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church and the Oshkosh Animal Shelter will be established.
As a tribute to our mother, "the girls" would like to gently remind everyone about the joy of a visit, a smile, card/note, which can mean the world to those with dementia and their families. We especially would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to everyone at Oakwood Manor and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and concern for our Mom. "For your heart will always be where your riches are" Matthew 6:21. "Drive carefully!" (Gloria's parting words always).

In my youth my father or mother and I made many visits to the Larsen Co-op for farm supplies or to fill the gas tank. I will always remember Gloria greeting us among the appliances that were positioned at the front entrance. She was so friendly and always curious to know the latest news of the family. My sympathy to the family. Many happy memories.

Though I only talked with Gloria a few times, I was told enough stories about her to know how much she meant to her girls and vise versa. Know that my thoughts are with you. Tom Jadin
