Gerald L. Haunschild, 76, Neenah, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, of complications of congestive heart failure. Gerald was born in Eau Claire, Wis., to Lyman and Lorraine (Hartman) Haunschild on Mar. 17, 1938. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1956. Gerald married Arlene Anderson in Eau Claire, Wis., on April 19, 1958.
Gerald joined the United States Army and was stationed and completed his tour of duty at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas where he trained personnel in the launch and maintenance of Nike Hercules missiles. After the Army he held several sales positions including one with International Harvester before setting up the first state office and serving as the first State Director of the Wisconsin Jaycees. Upon graduation from the University of Oshkosh, with a degree in Political Science he joined Kimberly-Clark Corporation's purchasing department; where he advanced to Corporate Director of Purchasing. He completed his 25+ year career with Kimberly-Clark as a specialty purchasing and patent consultant before retiring.
In addition to his many years with Jaycees, Gerald was active in Boy Scouts both as a youth and in support of the successful attainment of Eagle Scout rank by both his son Steven and his grandson Forrest. He was also a supporter of the Winnebago County Fair Association, particularly as a benefactor for the 4-H Poultry awards and ribbons. He was a graduate of the local Lay Ministry School and a member of Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Winneconne. Arlene and Gerald enjoyed traveling and activities such as camping, hiking in the mountains, fishing and deer hunting.
Gerald is survived by two children and three grandchildren: daughter Susan Haunschild, Neenah; daughter Catherine (John) Stamoulis, Pelzer, S.C., and granddaughter, Elena; and his son's children (grandchildren) Forrest and Vienna Haunschild of Greenville, Wis., his brother, Robert (Diane) Haunschild, Helmet, Cal. and their family; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
Preceding Gerald in death was his mother, Lorraine Haunschild, his sister Jeanne Haunschild, his father, Lyman Haunschild, and his son Steven Haunschild, as well as Margaret Haunschild.
A Funeral Service for Gerald will be held on Friday May 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 6090 Harbour South (corner of Harbour South and Hwy. 116), Winneconne, with Pastor Kevin Heffernan officiating. Burial will be at the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester, Wis. A Visitation for family and friends will also be on Friday at Lord of the Lakes from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
