Harry Elliot Norton, long time major Milwaukee department store executive, passed on to more life just days before his 101st birthday.
Harry was the husband of Harriet, who preceded him in death in 2004. He is survived by his sons, Jim and Dick; daughters-in-law, Linda and Marti; grandchildren, Pam, Polly, Doug, Cheryl, James; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Harry was a charter member of the North Shore Presbyterian Church in Shorewood, where he served on many committees and as an Elder and Deacon over the years. He was also an active member of the Shorewood Masonic Lodge.
After retirement he started a clock repair business and learned how to cook and make wine. Harry and his young friends enjoyed weekly dinners at his home where he served homemade pies and stollen. He and Harriet traveled extensively, visiting many different countries. He was an avid fisherman and photographer. Harry could build and repair anything. Working and creating in his basement workshop was a passion throughout his life.
Harry was a tireless caregiver for his wife, Harriet, for ten years.
He is beloved by his family and friends who will miss his energetic conversation.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Shore Presbyterian Church, Shorewood. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church at 4048 Bartlett Ave. Shorewood, WI 53211.

To Jim, Linda, Dick and family, I was fortunate to work for Harry from 1968-1975 as assistant buyer for the Gimbels Electronics department. He taught me so much about the art of buying and selling and merchandising that guided me in my over 40 years in retail. You will not fine a better human being than Harry. My sincere condolences to your entire families over your loss.

My deepest condolences to the Harry Norton family. The quickest and best way to define the word "gentleman" is: Harry Norton. The same can be said for "trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind, courteous, friendly, cheerful, devoted, and reverent". My life was made infinitely richer by my association with Harry.

To Jim, Linda, Dick and family....Your Dad will always hold a place in my heart as a kind, generous and wonderful man. He and your Mom were always so very good go me, and they are missed. Imagine living until nearly 101! That in itself is a tremendous accomplishment. My condolences to your family. Peg
