Margaret A. Meltz, age 88, of Oshkosh, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh. She was born October 29, 1925, in Minnesota to the late John and Anna (Thorson) Koch. Margaret was a graduate of Oshkosh High School and Oshkosh College. For a few years she was a school teacher until her marriage. On June 12, 1946, Margaret married Ralph Meltz and they made their home and farmed in the town of Vinland.
When their children were younger, Margaret and Ralph enjoyed many family activities including trips to the Milwaukee Zoo and Wisconsin Dells among other places, fishing at Mud Creek, going to the fair, and picnics in the park. In later years, Margaret and Ralph would make yearly drives to vacation in Mississippi to visit with family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and making many treats for her family. Margaret was a member of Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church in Neenah.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Wendy Nimmer, and Sherry (Jeff) Ratchman; one son, Ken Meltz; grandson, Steve Wegner; granddaughters, Amanda Zelinski, Abigail Zelinski, Tracy Nimmer, and Brittany Ratchman; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband Ralph on November 6, 2011; one son, Wayne Meltz; a granddaughter, Angie Wegner; a sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Roland Rice; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Geneva Koch, Clarence and Melinda Koch.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne with a funeral service to be held at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Jason Oakland to officiate. Burial will follow in the Brooks Cemetery, Town of Vinland. A gathering will be held on Wednesday after 5:30 p.m. at LaSure's Banquet Hall 3125 S. Washburn St. in Oshkosh.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Margaret's name for Alzheimer's and Dementia research, which she suffered from in her later years.
