Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
James C. Cawthorne, Jr. age 54, of Appleton, died Friday, June 6, 2014, after battling an illness. He was born in Madison on June 15, 1959, to James Sr. and Diana (Price) Cawthorne. Jimmy was a 1977 graduate of Winneconne High School. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard with his first tour on the Bering Sea and second tour at the South Pole. Jim earned a B.S. degree in Automotive Technology from Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and had worked for auto makers Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and the Ford Motor Co. Fleet Division. He then went to work for General Electric Plastics until his retirement. Jimmy was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., a longtime member of the American Legion Johnston-Blessman Post 38 in Appleton, and was very advanced in the martial arts.
Jim is survived by his mother, Diana (Martin) Gorski, of Irving, Texas; one brother, Corey Volden, of Appleton; niece and nephews, Nik, Kiley, and Tanner; aunt and uncle, Ginger and Joe Cissell, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Palm Coast, Florida; cousins, Debby Pedder (Luke Boettcher), of Oregon, Wisconsin; and Wendy (Mark) Towne, of Madison; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Jim in death was his father.
A gathering of family and friends (cash bar) will be on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 3220 W. College Ave. Appleton, with military honors to be held at 4:00 p.m.
