Michael "Mike" Meitzen, of Oshkosh, was born on April 1, 1962, in Park Ridge, Illinois and won his battle with cancer on Friday, September 12, 2014, at University Hospital in Madison at the young age of 52.
Mike was a 1980 graduate of Oshkosh West High School and in June of 1986 he started his 27 year career with the Department of Corrections retiring in 2013 as a Captain at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.
On December 14, 2002, he married his best friend Lori in Las Vegas. Mike was a proud father, grandfather, and Chicago Bear fan.
Mike was an inspiration to many people. He fought a long hard battle and never gave up. Mike did it all for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but always remembered.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lori; sons, Nicholas (Jocelyn), Nathan, and Matthew; daughter, Alyssa; granddaughters, Lydia and Janet; and his best buddy his dog Staley. Also surviving are a sister, Debbie (Chris) Joszwiak; brothers, Jon (Barb) Meitzen, Steve (Angel) Jannusch; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Judy Reetz; brothers-in-law, Tom (Beth) Reetz, David Reetz; aunts, Carolyn Brendel, Sandra Bull, Connie Grecco, Charity Puhl; an uncle, Rick Miller; cousins, Mary Jo Dodge, Barry Puhl; nephews and nieces, David, Patsy, Mykle, Alexis, Collin, Mandy, Jordan, Mitchell, Lauren, Cohen, and Ari.
Preceding Mike in death was his father, Michael Meitzen; his mother, Sonja Pena; and grandparents, Marvin and Ginny Meitzen.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, September 18, 2014, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Cremation will follow.
