Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Mary Jane Johnson, age 87, formerly of Winchester, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Bethany Nursing Home in Waupaca. She was born March 27, 1927, in Oshkosh to the late Warren and Ella (Hunt) Fuhs. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Winneconne High School. On February 26, 1947, she married Howard Johnson in Winchester where they made their home and farmed until moving to New London. Mary worked at Jandry's in Neenah, Plaza Drug in New London, and for many years at Hansen's Red Owl in Winchester. Upon retirement in 1989, Howard and Mary moved to the Sparta area where they built a home and lived until 1995 when they moved back to New London. Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, where she was a member of the Esther Circle, a Sunday school teacher, Sewing Circle, and visited shut-ins. Mary had a special love for music, especially listening to big band music. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends and she loved celebrating birthdays.
Mary is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Maureen Johnson, of Winneconne; one daughter, Judith Troudt, of Menasha; five grandchildren, Eric (Suzie) Johnson, of Winneconne; Todd (Nikki) Johnson, of Oshkosh; Theresa Troudt (David Finch), of Menasha; Patricia Menting, of Black Creek; Michele (Mathew) Larsen, of Waupaca; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Lee) Mauritz; two brothers, Howard (Judy) Fuhs, Robert (Bridget) Fuhs; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Howard on October 27, 2002; and an infant son, Richard.
Mary showed her family the meaning of faith, kindness, goodness, and unconditional love. We will all miss her smile, but most of all we will miss the great love she showed to each and every one of us.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, October 3, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Rd. Larsen, and a funeral service at noon with Pastor Dan Luett officiating.
