Rodney G. Williams, age 75, died Monday, October 20, 2014, after a well-fought battle with cancer. He was born January 9, 1939, in Oshkosh to Harvey and Pearl (Courtney) Williams. Rodney attended Winneconne High School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, completing a science degree during his subsequent service in the United States Navy.
His 21 years of service in the Navy, including two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, saw him obtain the rank of Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman and provided him a tour of the world. After his service, Rodney worked for Winnebago County Social Services until he retired to Lakehills, Texas.
Rodney's passion to his country was only matched by his passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles. When not riding, he was a voracious reader of history, politics, science, religion, electronics, technology, and science fiction.
Surviving Rodney are his siblings, Walter Williams, Peggy (Larry) Hirschberg, Debra (Jeffrey) Becker; and nephews, Jeffrey Hirschberg, Jason (Susan) Hirschberg, and Brian Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Pearl (Courtney) Williams.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A graveside service, with military honors, will follow at the Plummer Cemetery, Oshkosh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hirschberg Family Fund at the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfuneralhomeinc.com.

Rodney was a wonderful person who volunteered with us at Texas Public Radio in San Antonio. We enjoyed his company as he was always informed on so many subjects, very well read indeed! We sat with him whilst he received chemo on several occasions and enjoyed meals together. We will miss his company and wonderful spirit!

Rodney and I worked together at Winnnebago County Social Services, where he was exceptional with his duties and was always upbeat and happy. We kept in touch after he retired to Texas. I will miss hearing from him from time to time, which I now wish would have been more often. He was a very good friend and I am very saddened to hear that he is gone from here. I know he had colon cancer and I know how bad that can be as that is what took my mother. Rodney I am sorry that you had to suffer as you were a good friend and I will surely miss you!!!!
