William Bandstra, age 92, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh. He was born January 8, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Nellie (Hoekstra) Bandstra. Bill served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army 87th Mt Infantry 10th Division.
On November 6, 1943, he married Nelva Piersma in Chicago and in 1974 they made their home in Neenah. In 1990 Bill and Nelva moved to Green Lake, while wintering in Hudson, Florida. After Nelva's death in 1994 Bill moved to Winneconne.
Bill is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Marjorie Bandstra, of Winneconne; Ruth Bandstra, of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Steven (Jessica) Bandstra, Jennifer (Kert) Dietrich, Susan (Mike) Meunier, Cheryl Bandstra, Nathan (Kara) Bandstra, Emily (Andrew) Glerum, and James (Jennifer) Bandstra; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Carol (Don) Haan.
Preceding Bill in death was a son, David Bandstra; and six brothers and two sisters.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Winneconne Cemetery.
