Lloyd P. Benner, age 74, of Larsen, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at his home with his family at his side. He was born May 19, 1935 in Whitewater to the late Theodore and Lydia (Meisner) Benner. Lloyd served with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers during the Korean Conflict. On October 11, 1958 he married Judith Ann Thomas in Racine. For 34 years Lloyd worked with Case IH Tractor Company in Racine, retiring in June of 1994. He was a member of the Lake Poygan Sportsman's Club, American Legion Post 552 in Somers, and the VFW Post 1391 in Racine. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and promoting the preservation of the state's natural resources, particularly the Winnebago chain from the Wolf River to Green Bay.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith Benner, of Larsen; children, Steve (Steph) Benner, Michael (Colleen) Benner, Thomas (Janet) Benner, Sandy (Ed) Martini, all of Racine; and Kathleen (Michael) Feucht, of Burlington; grandchildren, Jason (Kristi) Barrett, Steven (Sara) Benner, Evan, Mikaela, Caley, Alec, and Eryn Benner, Sara and Caitlin Benner, Katie, Stacy, and Angela Martini; great-grandchildren, Adam James and soon to be Baby Barrett. Also surviving are one sister, Janice Dyess, of Racine; brothers, Keith Benner, of Racine; Charles (Marsha) Benner, of Orangeburg, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Pat Bull, of Oak Creek; brother-in-law, James (Linda) Thomas, of Wautoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Lloyd was also preceded in death by one brother, Ed Benner; and his very close friend, Gene Plank.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with Pastor John Covach officiating. A Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (at the Administration Building) 21731 Spring St. Union Grove with entombment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center in Oshkosh.
Lloyd's family extends special thanks to the staff of Aurora VNA Hospice, especially Johanna Edwards, and to the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, for all of the care given to him.
