Paula Jean (Schimelpfenig) Marks passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after an eight month stay at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee due to cancer.

Paula was born to Herbert and Wilma (Shubert) Schimelpfenig on February 4, 1951. The third of seven girls in the family. Paula grew up in the Omro area (Springbrook) and attended Omro Schools.

On July 14, 1973, she married Gary Marks at Grace Lutheran Church in Omro. Paula was a life member of Grace. When she was younger, she taught Sunday School and was in the Choir.

In the past, Paula worked at Miles Kimball, SNC, and Westhaven Supper Club. Her favorite job was day care for friends and relatives in her home while raising her own children.

Paula loved camping and the outdoors. Boot Lake in Northern Wisconsin is where she wanted to be at least a week or two each summer. She camped there with her parents when she was small and wanted her own children to experience it too. To this day her children still love camping at Boot Lake. One of her favorite trips was in 2013 when her and Gary travelled Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier in California with their very close friends, Bob and Mickie Rohan. She also enjoyed trips to Phoenix, Florida, Yellowstone, and Tennessee. She loved spending time with her children and their families. She was so proud of all of them.

Paula loved her family and will be deeply missed by her husband of 48 years, Gary; children, Ted (Gillian) King, Oshkosh; Jenny (Danny) Hunkin, Phoenix Arizona; Candy (Dan) Cook, Oshkosh; and Matthew Marks, Oshkosh; grandchildren, Braden and Declan King, Kendall and Jacob Hunkin, Carissa Coats (Sean Royer), Angela and Branden Brzozowski, Sean Cook and Drew Cook; and great-grandson, Lucas Brzozowski; sisters, Sally Thomas, Chris (Tom) Fearson, Debbie (Neil) Schmude, Jane (Rick) Christl, Joan Domske; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Eileen Bonnett, Scott and Joan Johnson, and Dale Marks, Edgar Newell; and many nieces and nephews.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Wilma Schimelpfenig; sister, Nancy Newell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Esther Marks; brother-in-law, John Thomas.

We would also like to thank, Jody, Debbie and all the others at Heartland Hospice for their loving care for Paula in her final days.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. Visitation will continue on Saturday, February 5 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church 720 Jackson Ave. Omro. I am so very sorry to know Paula is no longer with us. She was a caring, kind and compassionate person who touched the lives of many, including myself for which I will be forever grateful. I remember traveling with her to Texas after we graduated where she introduced me to my current husband of almost 52 years. She was truly a treasure and I am so very sorry you have lost your best friend, mother and grandmother. May God give you peace Gary.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have many special memories of Paula when she would babysit Hannah, Rachel, and me when we were preschool age and under. She was a caring person and had such a love for children. May God grant you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
