Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Marie M. Stokes, age 85, of the town of Rushford, died Thursday, October 1, 2015, peacefully with her family by her side at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh. She was born July 15, 1930, in the town of Utica to the late Robert and Greta (Kamke) Davis. Marie was a 1944 graduate of Tice School. On August 23, 1958, she married Loren Stokes at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Zion. Marie and Loren made their home, raised their family, and farmed in the town of Rushford. She was a lifelong member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Zion, being baptized, confirmed, and married there. Marie truly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Loren Stokes; four children, Barbara (Michael) Johnson, Daniel (Gina) Stokes, Dawn (Duane) Stiller, Stacey (Larry) Wright; grandchildren, Kiri Johnson, Christopher (Chali) Johnson, Brittni (Dustin) Wiskes, Spencer, Cerrina, Jordan, and Sidni Stokes, Autumn and Megan Stiller, Joshua, Sara, and Andrew Wright; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kayliana, Christopher, and two on the way; a sister, Margaret Retzlaff; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Along with her parents, Marie was also preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Russell, Lester, Thomas, and Dale Davis; and three sisters, Dorothy Hunter, Helen Johnson, and Mildred Davis.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, October 5, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, and will continue on Tuesday, October 6 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church 5355 Cty Rd K Oshkosh. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jud Krohn officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Marie's name.
Marie's family wishes to thank the staffs of Affinity Home Health, Affinity Hospice, Mercy Medical ICU, and Evergreen for all of the loving care, concern, and support given to her throughout the years.
