Jere "Skip" Lynn Nicholas, age 75, died peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2016, with his family at his side. He was born January 12, 1941, in Glendale, Wisconsin to Verle and Vera (Sargent) Nicholas. Jere served his country for 6 years in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1969. He had a long career as a truck driver and operated his own trucks for many years. Skip was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and sport shooting, along with auto and boat racing in his younger years. In 2013 Skip retired which gave him more time to work on rebuilding cars, shooting, hunting, and spending more time with family and friends. He loved the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR racing, attending local racing events, gun shows, and was always able to entertain us with all of his stories and jokes. Jere "Skip" will be missed terribly by all who loved him.
On December 1, 1979, Skip married Cheryl Haines and they resided in Glendale raising three boys until 1993, at which time they moved to Zittau.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zittau; where he served on the church council and as a youth mentor. Skip also volunteered his time to the Medina/Dale/Readfield Lions Club.
Skip is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Cheryl; his children, Troy (special friend, Barb and her daughter Bailee; Lee (Kim); and Eric; grandchildren, Nici, Stephen, Christopher, and Kailee; a great-grandchild, Arlen; nephews, Matt and Josh; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Skip in death were his parents, Verle and Vera Nicholas; step-mother, Virginia Nicholas; and his brother, Larry.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, January 24, 2016, from Noon to 3:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Kinney officiating. Military honors will follow. Cremation will then take place.
Skip's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at Theda Clark Medical Center for making his last days as peaceful as possible.
If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfuneralhomeinc.com.
