Mabel Smith, age 95, of Winneconne, died peacefully Friday, January 22, 2016, at Waterford of Oshkosh with her daughters by her side. She was born in Larsen on May 6, 1920, to the late Louis and Mary (Nelson) Sorenson. On June 11, 1947, Mabel married Elward "Bud" Smith at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester. Through her working career Mabel had been employed at Cliff Hallock's Grocery Store in Larsen, the Larsen Telephone Company, Larsen Locker, and the Larsen Co-op until her retirement in 1983.
In her earlier years, Mabel had played in a card club, and enjoyed going to the casino, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Winchester, and had volunteered more than 2000 hours at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.
Mabel is survived by two daughters, Judy (Rick) Borgardt, of Winneconne; Robbie (Gene) Young, of Winneconne; grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Angell, of Darboy; Dawn (Trevr) Smithlin, of Neenah; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Callie Smithlin, Abigail and Austin Angell; a sister, Marge Krings; sister-in-law, Pat Smith; step-grandchildren, Michelle Borgardt, Jeff Borgardt, Jeremy Young, Emily Young; step-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Olivia Young; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Along with her parents, Mabel was also preceded in death by her husband Bud, on December 3, 1995; three sisters, Dorothy Sorenson, Marie Christensen, Irene Woizeski; and two brothers, Pete and Ralph Sorenson.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Dr. Larsen, Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Ted Johanson officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester.
Memorials have been established for the Larsen/Winchester Lions Club and Heartland Hospice.
Mabel's family wishes to thank the wonderful caretakers at Waterford, especially Diane and Angela, and the Heartland Hospice staff for all of the care and concern shown to her.
