Marciel Ida Louisa Schmoker, age 95, of the Town of Vinland, died on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh.

She was born on November 12, 1920, in Winneconne, the daughter of the late Herbert and Linda (Drews) Bruss. She was the eldest daughter, one of seven children.

Marciel met her future husband, Emil Schmoker, when Marciel was hired as a caretaker for her future mother-in-law, Anna. Marciel and Emil married on June 27, 1942 and raised their five children on the Schmoker family farm. Marciel worked long hours with Emil operating a successful dairy farm while efficiently managing a large household. Emil preceded Marciel in death on July 10, 2009.

Marciel was an avid reader, crocheted to perfection and loved to dance with Emil to Big Band music. She raised chickens and turkey ducks and sold eggs to supplement the family income. A multitude of fruits and vegetables raised in her garden fed the family year round. Cooking and baking were her specialties. Marciel was a hard worker always and was not afraid to take on any duty to help her family. She did not, however, have a love affair with toads!

Marciel was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winneconne. She remained devoted to her faith and the church throughout her life.

Marciel is survived by five children, Jacqueline (Patrick) Tyers, Joanne (Gerald) Forseth, Jilaine (Fred) Mueller, Jerrold (Carol) Schmoker and Jay (Sue) Schmoker all of Oshkosh; her grandchildren, Danette (Andrew) Leslie, Tara (Joseph) Hoffman, Clint Forseth, Brad (Tiffany) Forseth, Megan (Ryon) Schmitt, Adam (Fawn) Mueller, Jamie Kempf (Brian Kutchenriter), Amber (Steve) Tritt, Jason (Kelly) Schmoker, Jeffrey (Jen) Schmoker, Luke (Karey) Schmoker and Sarah Schmoker (fiancé, Ben Isaac); a sister, June (Richard) Kleinschmidt of Oshkosh; four brothers-in-law, Larry Krueger, Dallas Krueger, Don Eichsteadt and Harold Haack, 19 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marciel was preceded in death by her in-laws, Jacob and Anna (Weisner) Schmoker; her siblings, Alvin (Charlotte) Bruss, Leona Krueger, Marion (Merle) Witthuhn, Lula Krueger and Sue Eichsteadt; her sisters-in-law, Flora (Ed) Berndt, Olga (Earl) Buser, Alma (Denver) Buser and Rose (Howard) Olsen.

A funeral service for Marciel will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St., Winneconne, with Pastor Mark Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church or to the charity of one's choice are appreciated.

If you wish, please submit online condolences to muellerfuneralhomeinc.com.

Marciel's family wishes to thank the staffs of Evergreen Retirement Community and Heartland Hospice and Pastor Mark Albrecht and Pastor Benjamin Berger, for all the care and support shown to Marciel and her family.
