Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Frederick Albert Rasmussen
Winchester, Wisconsin
Frederick Albert Rasmussen, age 78, of Winchester, died Sunday, January 3, 2010. He was born May 28, 1931, in the Town of Winchester to the late Lars and Pauline (Ihrig) Rasmussen. Fred was a 1949 graduate of Winneconne High School, and after graduation Fred farmed for a few years before entering the U.S. Navy in 1954. He served on the North Hampton and the Saratoga, serving in the European Occupation. Fred traveled around the world enjoying the many ports the Navy took him to, especially Spain, where he always dreamed of returning to. After his discharge from the Navy in 1958, Fred returned to farming and working in many agricultural related jobs, including working at the Larsen Co-op, until an illness left him unable to work. After his illness, Fred moved in with his sister Marian and her family, who helped care for him. He never complained, and his answer to the question "How is it going Fred?" was always "Super". Fred looked forward to spring to plant trees and garden. He loved coffee and popping popcorn. He enjoyed baseball and was a lifetime New York Yankee fan.
Fred was a great brother and is survived by four sisters, Marian Kohler, Evelyn Schierland, both of Winchester; Adeline Butter, of Seymour; Pauline Johnson, of Menasha; one sister-in-law, Edna Rasmussen, of Winneconne. He was a loving uncle and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by one sister, Florence; and four brothers, Carl, Christian, George, and Lester Rasmussen.
A Funeral Service for Fred will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, Larsen, Wisconsin, with Pastor Dan Luett officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Fred's family wishes to thank the staff of Fresenius Medical Services in Neenah for all of their care, and to all of those giving him the special cab rides to and from dialysis.
